What We Do
Who Is the Unique Variations Foundation?
The Unique Variations Foundation helps families of individuals diagnosed with albinism and those looking for treatment assistance in adulthood. Our son, Josh, who was diagnosed with ocular albinism, inspired us to create the foundation. We are using this platform to create awareness of the challenges and blessings of raising individuals with albinism to ensure they have the resources that are necessary for them to live a normal and happy life. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff with any questions. There are also scholarships available to help your individual with higher education when the time comes.
Social Initiatives
Raising social awareness around our community is another one of the reasons we created the Unique Variations Foundation. There are far too many misconceptions surrounding those affected by albinism and around the condition itself. We aim to dispel these myths and get the truth out about how our loved ones are affected and how you can interact with them in any social environment. We have extra-curricular programs where we work on the individuals’ strengths to help build their confidence. Our son Josh has become quite an exceptional golfer thanks to our social initiative programs.
Healthcare Initiatives for Albinism
While albinism does not worsen with age, leaving the house unprotected can cause real problems. Taking care of yourself requires the personal experience our foundation can provide. We share our experiences and continually research new initiatives offered by the healthcare community. Below are some of the medical assistance we have provided the Longview community:
- Vision Tests
- Low Vision Assessments
- Skin Care Education
- Spinal Surgeries
- And More
Learning and Education With Albinism
Albinism also affects the individuals’ behavioral patterns, affecting how they learn or how they handle social interactions in the classroom. Most people’s success can get directly tied to their schooling environment experience. If they cannot perform to their best because they do not have the proper resources, they can get left behind. We have to provide our community with the know-how for educating our youth to ensure they receive a formal education.
